An Age Difference Calculator compares the birth dates of two people and works out exactly how far apart they are in age — down to the year, month, and day. It's a step beyond a simple age calculator: instead of measuring one person's age against today, it measures the gap between two people's lifespans, which stays fixed regardless of which "today" you check it on.
This makes it useful for siblings, couples, classmates, colleagues, or even pets and historical figures. Beyond the headline figure, the tool also breaks the gap down into total weeks, days, hours, and minutes, and shows a live countdown to each person's upcoming birthday so you can see, in real time, who turns a year older next.
The calculator first identifies which of the two birth dates is earlier — that person is "older" by definition, regardless of which input box they were typed into. It then performs a calendar-aware subtraction between the two dates, the same method used in a standard age calculator:
Step 1: Subtract the earlier birth year from the later birth year to get a raw year count. Step 2: If the later person's birth month and day fall before the earlier person's birth month and day in the calendar cycle, subtract one year and carry the remainder into months. Step 3: Work out the remaining whole months. Step 4: Work out the remaining days, respecting the actual number of days in the relevant month (28, 29, 30, or 31).
In parallel, the calculator computes the raw difference in milliseconds between the two exact dates and converts that into total days, weeks, hours, and minutes — figures that don't change even if the calendar-based years/months/days representation looks different depending on which date is treated as the "start" point.

A common mistake is subtracting birth years directly — for example, assuming someone born in 2000 and someone born in 2003 are exactly "3 years apart." That's only true if both birthdays fall on the same date in the calendar. If Person 1 was born on 28 December 2000 and Person 2 on 5 January 2003, the actual gap is just 2 years and 8 days, not 3 years, because Person 1's birthday in late December almost overlaps with Person 2's birth in early January of the following year.
